I took advantage of a day with the lowest chance of rain we’ve had in weeks to give my car a better than average cleaning.

The interior looks better than it has in ages, and I feel like other than renting a carpet cleaner it’s looking as good as I expect to get it.

That being said there’s one place that really needs help.

Under the hood looks terrible. However, being a Volt there are numerous warnings of death to everyone in a three block radius should I even look at the engine bay with a hose in my hand.

How would our resident detailers go about cleaning the engine bay plastics? These are some of the cleaners I already have at hand. If none of these are any good I’ll gladly buy something different.

Engine bay.

Use an all purpose cleaner or degreaser and a detailing brush to agitate it into nooks and crannies , then use several microfibre cloths to remove the dirt, then dress with 303 Aerospace protectant.

after dressing, simply spray 303 over the engine bay and close the bonnet, on the large flat areas you may want to spray some on a microfibre cloth and gently wipe over those bits.

I don’t currently have any brushes, but I’ve alread ordered some 303 given that both replies have mentioned it.

I probably need to order more cloths while I’m at it. Thankfully I have a good degreaser so at least I can make it more presentable for now.

A selection of brushes is a must for many aspects of car cleaning such as spraying some degreaser/cleaner onto a brush and using it around the nook and crannies of the car such as panel gaps, window rubbers, badges, grilles, etc... getting dust out of air vent fins, around gearshifts gators and other elements of the centre console, etc...

You can use a small paint brush but if there are any metal areas on the brush , make sure you put tape round it.

Having a stock of 300gsm microfibres will always comes in handy.
